Ammunition is made up of a bullet, casing, gunpowder, and a primer. The bullet is typically made of lead but could be another type of metal. The casing is usually made from brass and is recyclable, so after a round has been fired at the range, this portion can be recycled.
Ammunition is something that needs to be disposed of carefully and properly - you should never throw ammo in the trash.
Most law enforcement offices will take live ammo and dispose of it. Just call them and ask.
