Average mattresses and memory foam mattress toppers are generally not made of very eco-friendly materials. The most common materials used include latex, memory foam, polyurethane foam, polyester blends, feathers or wool. Throwing your mattress topper into the trash can harm the environment because they release hydrogen cyanide and isocyanates as they decompose, which can contaminate soil and groundwater.
