Often these lids are made from recyclable plastic, sometimes they're not.

They can go in some recycle bins as long as they are plastic number 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5. 

The best solution would be to reduce the number of disposable cups and lids produced; if not used, there's no waste to manage.
