Most paper cups are designed for a single use and then disposal and very little recycled paper is used to make paper cups because of contamination concerns and regulations.
Paper is recyclable; however, paper cups are coated with polyethylene plastic to prevent damage to the cups from the beverages. Most recycling facilities are unable to separate the polyethylene shell from the paper and so they end up in landfill.
