Lawnmowers and gardening equipment is often required by local community groups, check with them.
Local re-use organisations will sometimes take them and sell at low cost to help others. Check to see if they accept these items in your area.
Pass on items for free at places such as Freecycle
Sell or give away on a classified ad or material exchange site
Often family and friends can use the things we don't want any more
Sell or give away at a yard sale
Advertise in the local paper or on local noticeboards
Recycle the different kinds of mowers:
Electric lawnmowers are classed as Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment and can be recycled at the Transfer Station with other electrical items.
Petrol lawnmowers can be taken to a scrap metal dealer. Please make sure that the fuel tank is completely empty.
Push lawnmowers are generally made from metal and can be placed for scrap metal for recycling. If the grass collection bin is made from plastic, this should be removed.
