• If wooden frames are not painted, varnished, embellished or any other treatment they can be recycled with other wood products.
• Some frames can be made with metal, plastic, paper or papier mache, and other products. Picture frames can also be made of glass.
• Metal picture frames can be taken to the Transfer Station or a scrap metal dealer.  You will have to remove the back, glass, picture and all other materials before putting the frame in the metal recycling bin.
• The paper picture frames, and the paper in the frames (stock photos, matting board, etc.), can be recycled with paper unless they have a large amount of embellishment. Plain paper frames are fine. Those with lots of stickers, or other things attached may need to go in the trash.
• Papier mache frames should not be put in the recycling bin with mixed paper.
• Picture frames made of glass, are also not recyclable, nor is the glass within the frame.

• Donate to a thrift store
• Give away to family or friends who might have a use for them
• List to sell or give away on material exchange site
