Plastic Lids/Caps

Unless otherwise advised, plastic caps and lids should be removed and thrown into the garbage before putting the bottle in the recycling bin.

When loose, bottle caps are small enough to slip through contaminant screens at the recycling centre, so they do not get recycled. 

However, lids and caps can be recycled if handled properly because they are typically made from plastic #5.

Some recyclers accept bottles with the lids left on.
