Some types of plastic are easier to recycle than others (numbers 1-5). Recycling facilities have an incentive to recycle certain types of plastics over others. 

If a plastic does not have a recycling symbol on it, throw it in the garbage to avoid contaminating the whole recycling stream.

If the item is still in decent condition (whether it has a recycle code numer or not)  these containers can be reused and kept out of landfill:
