The cheaper, lightweight, disposable ones, are usually made from HDPE (resin code 2) which can often be recycled along with plastic shopping bags.

The heavier, cloth-backed ones (when no longer usable) cannot be recycled and can be put in the garbage.

To reuse or repurpose them:

  • Make kites out of them.
  • Turn them into anti-leakage cloths for mattresses.
  • Use to wrap presents.
  • Used them as drop cloths to paint or spray paint on.
