Child Baby Car Seat

Last Updated December 13th, 2017

This Topic Includes

Millions of child car seats are purchased annually in North America, and that's a lot of wasted material if it ends up as landfill. Child car and booster seats have an expiry or useful life date printed on them (usually 6 years from date of manufacture). This is because the plastic and harnesses deteriorate and weaken over time due to stresses from ultra violet sunlight and temperature extremes that can break down those components and compromise safety. Car seats or booster seats made before Jan. 1, 2012 cannot be sold or given away because they may not meet the latest safety requirements.
