Coal or Anthracite Ash

Last Updated December 13th, 2017

This Topic Includes

Put ashes from coal or anthracite (a hard variety or coal that contains relatively pure carbon and burns with little flame and smoke) in the garbage since it has little or no nutritional benefit and is potentially harmful to soil, plants and consumers of edible produce.

To protect the collection staff, all ash material must be double-bagged in sealed weatherproof bags and placed in the garbage. Thoroughly cold ashes only or the bag may start a fire in the cart or in the truck.
