Most plastics are stamped with a recycling symbol, even if they are often not accepted for recycling.
If the plastic does not have a code (like plastic strapping), there is little way of knowing whether it can be recycled. In this case, it is best to put the plastic in the garbage to avoid contaminating the recycling stream.
