These knives come in various sizes. Some are metal and some are plastic. The metal ones are recyclable as scrap metal. The plastic ones should be put in the trash when they are no longer useful.
Because they have sharp parts a few extra steps are required to recycle or trash them. Blades that are left sticking out of a box cutter or are simply thrown in a recycling bin can cause serious cuts. Handling them can be dangerous to recyclers and collection staff.
